The residency program is hosted at Casa Ruta Sur, a colonial house located in the historic San Antonio neighborhood of Cali. The house preserves the atmosphere of a traditional Colombian coffee hacienda, featuring hammocks, sofas, and shared living spaces designed for rest, reflection, and informal exchange. It is a quiet and contemplative environment, offering 24-hour assistance to residents. Each private room includes an en-suite bathroom and a dedicated workspace, allowing artists to balance daily life with sustained studio practice.
San Antonio is one of Cali’s most emblematic neighborhoods, known for its well-preserved colonial architecture, steep streets, and panoramic views of the city. Over the past decades, it has become a key cultural enclave, with a strong presence of independent art spaces, artist-run initiatives, craft workshops, and local cultural projects, alongside a diverse and vibrant gastronomic scene. The neighborhood fosters daily encounters between artists, musicians, writers, and cultural workers, making it an ideal context for artistic research and exchange.
Located just five minutes from Cali’s historic downtown, San Antonio is closely connected to the city’s main exhibition circuits, museums, galleries, and alternative spaces. Its walkable scale and central location allow residents to easily engage with the local art scene while remaining immersed in a residential and human-scale environment. The neighborhood also has a significant international population, which contributes to a cosmopolitan atmosphere and encourages cross-cultural dialogue within the urban fabric.
The residency program offers continuous conceptual support, led by its director and an advisory committee composed of local artists and cultural agents. This team accompanies each resident throughout their stay, providing guidance tailored to the artist’s practice, facilitating connections with the local context, and encouraging critical reflection, experimentation, and dialogue with the city.
San Antonio functions not only as a place of accommodation, but as a living context—a territory where history, everyday life, and contemporary artistic practices intersect, offering resident artists a fertile ground for research, production, and meaningful engagement with Cali.
